Monkey Town IIIApes in captivity need specialist care for emotional and intellectual well-being. That’s a fact. But at Monkey Town in Somerset West chimpanzees were sometimes chased about with a weed-eater and deprived of stimulation while the baboons - in their struggle for dominance - killed members of their pack.
Now there’s a new broom at this private zoo in the Western Cape and Carte Blanche paid a return visit.

John Cleese“He who laughs most, learns best”. The words of John Cleese, whom most remember as Basil Fawlty, the dysfunctional owner of an English seaside hotel.
From Monty Python to A Fish Called Wanda, he’s evoked laughter the world over. He was recently in South Africa, to shoot Spud, the movie. Carte Blanche caught up with him on location in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
