Friday the 13th: a day associated with Horror Movies and evil things. Most would not dream of having a wedding on such a day, but this was the total opposite for Isidingo newlyweds Barker Haines
(Robert Whitehead) and Kimberly Lewis
(Marisa Drummond). Watching the episode on Friday night, one would’ve believed it was a real wedding. It had all the characteristics of a real wedding, from the tension in the crowd, the late bride and a beautifully decorated venue.
In the story, the wedding was held at the new Bokamoso Game Farm, owned by Lesedi Moloi
(Gugulethu Zuma) and Vusi Moletsane
(Meshack Mavuso) ... but in reality it was shot at the beautiful Oak Field Farm just near Jo’burg.
It was odd for most viewers when Barker popped the big question to Kimmie; it is no obvious secret that the two cannot stand each other. One would expect Barker to be marrying his PA of 30 years Harriet Thompson
(Grethe Fox).It then plants the idea in our heads that this is nothing but a way for Barker to control Kimberly and keep his son Jody
(Gabriel Poulsen) close to him. After all, Kimmie has threatened to leave with Jody, she even packed and moved in with then boyfriend Len Cooper
(Chris Beasley). This of course was not Haines’ first wedding - he has been married to the mother of his late children
(Duncan and Leone) Anthea, whom he lied to, when he told them she was dead. Then to the evil Cherel De Villiers
(Michelle Botes), and of course who could forget the very short marriage to, well Kimberly.
This was indeed a wedding full of surprises, from Len posing as the chauffeur, and then making out with the bride minutes before she said her “I do’s” . But the biggest of all was when the one-and-only Cherel made her appearance at the reception.
Barker looked like he had seen a ghost. Botes is no stranger to Isidingo viewers; she is part of the original cast of the show. She is known for nothing but evil, she killed her own husband and then mine manager Pierre De Villiers and claimed it was self defense, and then Slang Borman, and his wife. And who could forget the tragic murder of Duncan Haines - she tossed his body in a mine shaft and faked his kidnapping.
Cherel was acquitted of all murders and left the Deep in 2007, after having a short affair with Rajesh Kumar
(Jack Devnarain), and with the rumour she was carrying his child.
We wonder what things she brings to the Deep this time around: what is going to happen when she meets with Haines, Kumar? Will she team up with Kimberly? - if they do, what conspiracies could they come up with?
