The
2010 Channel O Awards took place at Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday night (4 November) and narrowly escaped turning into a 1Time flight.
The theme for the evening was aviation: guests were greeted by hosts wearing pilot outfits, the convention area was turned into an airport, schlebs flew down the red carpet (visuals coming soon) and the flight was delayed after getting stuck on the runway.
The ceremony was broadcast live on Channel O and was hampered by technical troubles, resulting in
lots of ad-libbing by ceremony hosts Lungsta Radu and comedian Thomas Gumede.
The cause wasn't revealed but it turned out that the engine wasn't on fire, passengers didn't get injured trying to escape and the flight departed a half-an-hour late.
No-one got a R60 voucher for the stress though ... we've heard that this is what 1Time gave the passengers involved in last week's flyiasco. Is it true??
As you may know, there has been a lot of huffing and puffing about the Channel O Awards in previous years. Criticism that South Africans don't win enough, because we don't vote enough.
This year, things changed: Mzansi musos won half of the awards, in seven out of 14 categories.
