Following the outrage caused by Kuli Roberts' column in a Sunday newspaper this past week, questions have been raised about the future of her television show, Headline, on M-Net's Mzansi Magic channel.
Headline will continue on Mzansi Magic in its primetime slot on Thursdays at 20h30 and Mzansi Magic will not terminate Kuli's contract as presenter of the show.
Lebone Maema, Mzansi Magic's Channel Manager, explains:
"Mzansi Magic does not endorse the views expressed by Kuli Roberts in her newspaper column. However, after discussions with Kuli, the management of Mzansi Magic have decided to give her the benefit of the doubt, accepting her explanation that it was not her intention to be offensive or malicious.
"Thus, Mzansi Magic will grant Kuli the opportunity to make a public apology on Headline this week.
"We embrace diversity and this week's episode of Headline will scrutinise Kuli's column from different sides," says Maema. "We have solicited opinions from high-profile South Africans and trendsetters, as well as members of the public."
Headline will conduct interviews with, amongst others, City Press Editor Ferial Haffajee; politician Patricia de Lille; communications expert Farah Fortune; radio jock Ishmael Abrahams, actor Craig Palm; and DJ Warras.
