I Want To Sing Gospel 2: Episode 4 Recap

Greeting to you all bazalwane in the Name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Chris...it is once more with great joy and love to bring you this week's recap of I Want To Sing Gospel. Due to some unholy circumstances, I could not write last week's recap...enough about me I have prayed and fasted the whole week and all is forgiven.

Last night, like Lindelani I felt the competition coming to life. I felt the electrifying dynamic connection to God due to some wonderful praise and worship dished out by the contestants. In my unholy situation I felt holy again, the anointing in those voices...even those who were eliminated should be proud of themselves.

As usual the group, they had to perform a song to test their vocal abilities *very predictable if you ask me*. They were ofcourse fighting for the top 10 spot. The guest judge for the night was Idols Sindi Nene who looked more blonde than the word blonde....unlike Miss Hanekam, she knew what she was talking about, made some pretty good comments.

Here's how it went down:

Group1 - FOR HIM

This group sang Uthando Lukababa, a song chosen by Sthembiso. Poor Malcolm had no choice but to compromise and learn the song and they did well and they also sang Jesu is Love. The only weakest link in this group was the lady in pink...Andile ebekhenkceza yedwa shem.
Lindelani was proud and highly impressive by their performance and liked their contrast of the song. Sindi said they worked well as a group and it was an amazing performance.

Group2 - UNLIMITED

Lindelani Mkhize felt uneasy about their song choice and they had to change it as they were not blending. Well they performed Kuyabonelelwa.
Lindelani - "lovely awesome performance"
Sindi - "worked very hard as a group"

Group3 - PRAISE SAINTS

This group sand Lapheng'iholela khona, shoot me for being a pessimist but I felt nothing special about their performance, they might have sang in Afrikaans but they were just all over. I guess Rozanne lives to sing another day.

Lindelani said it was a nice performance, they had a false start and their chorus was unconvincing.
Sindi said they had powerful voices, impressed by the Afrikaans part even though she couldn't understand the words "talk about being blond"

Group4 - TESTIFY

Somebody shout Halelujaaaaaaaa....I felt heavens open, and I was flying with angels...no I was an angel myself. They sang eGolgotha and Awesome God...spiritually, there was a connection with what they were singing, they were innovative and I was impressed.

Lindelani loved their arrangement and the way they were supporting each other.
Sindi said they did very well.

ELIMINATION

I wasn't happy with Karabo's elimination, Nqobile had to go but who am I? Oh I felt sorry for Anele who was so heartbroken...apparently she has tried 5 times to win these competitions...maybe she should try modeling.

I am so looking forward to next week, the remaining Top 10 will perform and then they will feel our wrath.

I was so not happy with Karabo's elimination. The way I see things, Nqobile is this year's winner. IWSTG is not about technical abilities and singing techniques. As long as you can do those things that sis'Hlengiwe does then you can go through. Mciim.

Hi Carino, I understand your fustration. Im a music promoter and I like Lindelani a lot and im following on his steps. To be honest with u, eliminating uKarabo was purely a business decision move and if i was faced with the same situation I was gona do the same. The moment Nqobile was performing I could tell that he wont be eliminated thou he was not good on that day. Just think of Cash Cow vs Talent, which one is more appealing? Karabo was good and i liked hm as well hwever I can see a market for Nqobile already.

All of them are truelly talented(even though some of them were better than others,on the night) and once again I realised what talent we have in this country... Felt superbad fro Anele,I remember her from Popstars last year (She made the top 12)... But,all in all an awesome episode. #TeamMalcolm

kwaaaaaaaaaa - I em saying nutin bout my Mis Hanekom - mna I was just disturbed by the Judge's hair do nd her idols background- I know I em old fashion, but that "blonde-look" shoud b judging SA's funniest animals or sumting - the gal underneath the blond is very very cute though -

Kwaaaaaa - I told u, it was not umoya - it wud not dissapear so easy - Karabo's ish was decided da soon he stood with the KZN boy 4 one spot spot - we hav learnt that u don't compete with ooKhabazele nd expect 2 win....

But he could hav kept Karabo nd nqobile nd boot out other weaker fellows - I am imagining the Chiskop gal

So so so true - that pint-size thing should have long gone home....

Exactly, I thought the Chiskop gal was gonna leave....Thabo campaigned for her with that comment he made after her group sang.

Shem Anele wa batho...maybe she should try again next year *just saying*.
I also feel it was unfair for Karabo to be eliminated,if Lindelani wants contestants to sing like Hlengiwe, then he should change the name of the show to I CAN SING GOSPEL LIKE HLENGIWE.
Sindi killed me with the 'I dont understand Afrikaans' comments, shem nkebe a itimaletse. And the blonde look...its got to go.
Baby Chiskop should've gone home, like really now!

QN Recordz
08 Aug 2011 14:09

To Lex: Its not like Lindelani is looking at I Can Sing Gospel Like Hlengiwe, he is looking for something that will appeal with the SA gospel market without waisting limited resources. I like it when u make an example about Hlengiwe, her music is selling all over, so he is looking for something that will sell which is Traditional gospel music. Just think of the likes of aboNcandweni, Sipho Makhabane some ppl are undermining them and I can confirm to you that those guys are selling more than anyone doing Contemporary gospel music in South Africa. Especially ppl from rural areas those ppl buy music they dont write CD's.

Honestly, compared to 2008, this year's show is just not cutting it. From the cheap microphones, the cheap guest judges, and the sound is just not on point. Honestly.

carino
08 Aug 2011 14:12

And this thing of Lindelani making the final decision all by himself makes this show a Zimbabwe, struu.

QN Recordz
08 Aug 2011 14:30

To Carino:Honestly, compared to 2008, this year's show is just not cutting it.

To be honest with u I was expecting continuation of 2008 season which started ok. Here im refferring to things such as Brand values, Brand tone, Brand feel, Brand effect. Its about time that the gospel music industry move away from shortcuts. We need to research very well if we want to grow this industry.

I know its a costly exercise to produce and market such a commodity. However they need to set  high standard of production to ensure success.  The ethos of production of this show must combine rarity of production elements both instrumentally and stylistically.

Sbam
08 Aug 2011 14:37

The show ka boyona needs a make-over... it's dull and boring cz they are still using 2008's theme..

maar in terms of talent...  this year  is far  better than 2008, fo sho. There is variety. maar the worrying thing ke hore some, much as they are talented they wanna imitate the already existing singers.. which  is working against them, sometimes.

there's this older guy who was in group 4, he has a very strong nice voice and it think if they can be fair to him he can go far in this competition

One blogger once said Lindelani is alpha and omega of this competition, anything he says goes.... I fully agree, He's got too much power, and wish they can bring other judges to help out...

QN Recordz
08 Aug 2011 14:52

Sbam: I dont blame ppl from doing things from 2008 beacuse the show is bringing 2008 concepts with no change (Renewal No Change). I wont be suprised even if some1 tells me that the equipment used is the same as that of 2008. Really there is no change. Thabo is even worse with this after break thing. OMG!!!

They must bring change and envisage creating a noble, elegant and sustainable brand with attributes of a SAMA and Crown Award. I still have faith in their team to build yet another robust brand with I Want To Sing Gospel that will not only be a 2nd season success but create myriad of excellence and splendour even in forthcoming productions.

Their ethos should be at launching a class of superiority in all projects they engage in thus creating a legendary experience and craftsmanship to the glory of our God within. Through God I know they can do this.

Sbam
08 Aug 2011 15:34

I must say I Want To Sing Gosple singers are way better than Idols singers. Idols singers have nothing on them.
I agree, Idols are overrated if u ask me

shuu
08 Aug 2011 15:53

@QN..... Idols is mnet production and IWTSG is an individual discovering talent... it will be unfair to compare the two except to appreciate what lindelani is doing.

its like here in bots, we have an individual who has his version running on btv. people always criticize it comparing the thing to sa and american idols. i think thats unfair

@ Lex: Shem Anele wa batho...maybe she should try again next year *just saying*
Next year again??? No, she must retreat a bit, it not yet her time - may b she must try non musical back-doors now, thingz in the next season of SA's got talent or big brother - nd then record a cd l8r

@QN Recordz: Especially ppl from rural areas those ppl buy music they dont write CD's...
so so so true, every taxi rank, car wash, stalion (Bakkie-taxi), spaza shop, and even sheeebn (sp) / sirhoxo/ rural tavern  plays Ncandweni in ma village - I don't know why drunk ppl do well with Sikuyo indlela! would be

PS: I love your apprach on this matter - u r too proffessional nd technocal - nd u seem to hav a vission of where our gospel music will go - I hope the deep-house-funk music don't snatch nd divert u to their side.... thina we r talking with emotions nje - well emotions nd buying power I guess coz its us who must buy these cds...

@Cariri: thing of Lindelani making the final decision all by himself makes this show a Zimbabwe, struu. @Sbam:Lindelani is alpha and omega of this competition
Kwaaaaaa kwaaaaaa - strong words, strong words yini be2 - true words though! Mna I would not hav a problem if he does that, and then support the winning candidate 2 da best of his ability as he will b the only 1 believing in him/ her - I em still mad about him dumping Lungisani 2 some1 else and failing 2 promote hime 2 b the true new Gospel sensation....

I understand what Lindelani is trying to achieve but I am not convinced that it always works. It has clearly not worked with the previous winner...I don't remember a single song from Lungisani's album. I might not have been a big fan of Kgotso during last season but I am looking for that kind of artist, who understands very well what he is singing about, an artist who will not only have a beautiful and unique voice but someone who is gonna tell a story through music

shuu
09 Aug 2011 12:29

lungisani was chosen by voters. when he was interviewed after that season, lindelani confessed that if he had his way the winner would have been kgotso, charisma or siphumelele..... If it wasn't for lindelani's show, kgotso wouldn't be where he is now... i am just saying lets give the brother some credit. of course there is always room for improvement!!!!!!
