Last night’s episode of
I Want To Sing Gospel, themed “Open Hymn Book,” featured some of the well known songs and Lindelani was looking for “interpretation of these old songs”. This time Lindelani was joined by Sizwe Zako and Sarah Thabethe (not Ngobeni anymore) as the judges.
Thabani who is appearing to be the frontrunner at this moment had the highest number of votes, and the unfortunate bottom three were Nozipho, Thando and Nhlakanipho (I need to start voting I don’t want to see him go yet).
Malcolm, Thabani, Nonsikelelo, Mvuselelo, Samkelisiwe, Nozipho, Nqobile, Nombulelo, Nhlakanipho and Thando
The finalists gave it their best shot in their duets once again and here’s how it went:
Thando and Nhlakanipho They sang
Akasoze Angidele / Le Feleng Mo Ke Tsamayang, well Nhlakanipho started very well but his partner just disappeared into thin air, it was obvious she was the weakest link. She completely lost it and she was not strong vocally. Lindelani liked the way Thando matched Nhlakanipho, and I disagree….Thando had no control. Sarah and Sizwe were impressed and loved Nhlakanipho’s voice. I am voting Nhlakanipho
Nozipho and Nqobile
After an awful performance last week, Nqobile managed to get more votes than those who were in the bottom three, and once again he sang so bad I felt sorry for him. I just don’t understand why Nqobile is still in the competition. Anyway they sang
Ekusho Enyukela / Everyday and Every Hour, You Are Faithful….Nozipho did well but it wasn’t good enough to save her and the less said about the one dimensional Nqobile the better. Lindelani said they were “showing why there were there”, Sarah felt they “performed quiet well” and Mr Zako said they were “sounding very wonderful and very commercial”….Oh puuu leeeez
Nonsikelelo and Mvuselelo
Here is another duet that started very well and then lost it in the middle and never recovered. They performed
It is Well / Emnqamlezweni. Lindelani “loved the performance”, Sizwe “great future for gospel music in our country” and Sarah “loved it, and felt they were both amazing”. I was not impressed especially with Nonsikelelo….she is in the bottom two for me.
Nombulelo and Thabani
The strongest duet of the night and clearly the frontrunners sang
Kubo Bonke oThixo / Morena wa Marena, all the other contestants have to do catch up because these two are just flawless and they sang beautifully. Both are very strong vocally and have the stage presence and the character of their voices is distinctive. Lindelani said they are the surprise package of the competition, Sarah “felt like she was watching a performance” and Sizwe said “nivelaphi maan”.
Samkelisiwe and Malcolm They were the final performers and they gave it their best with
What A Friend / There is Power / For It Reaches. I enjoyed their performance, Lindelani “they were having fun and very innovative”, Sizwe “very dynamic and powerful” and Sarah “perfect choice of song”.
In the end, Thando Makhaphela and Nozipho Phiri were sent home, leaving the top eight finalists. Next to leave should be Nonsikelelo and Nqobile, it's time I start voting for real, I can't bear to see my favourites and those who are vocally talented leaving the show early. I am enough with the duets now, I want individual performances now. What's your pick?
