It became clear right from the start that Elsa Winterbach, editor of the top fashion magazine Bella Donna, was a handful to handle.
She had Altus struggling like a schoolboy during the Bruynwaves pitch for the magazine’s 60th anniversary function, and it took all Paula’s je ne sais quois to land them the contract.
Top actress Isadora Verwey thoroughly enjoyed bringing this colourful character to life. With the expertise born of years in theatre and television productions, it took her no time at all to suss out Elsa’s psyche and create a multidimentional character.
“One has to understand that Elsa Winterbach’s and Bella Donna’s reputations are at stake here – reputations that were built over many years through hard work in an extremely competitive field. And one badly presented function could undo it all,” explains Isadora.
“The woman is a nervous wreck. Add to that the whims of a strong personality and a creative temperament and you have Elsa Winterbach: stylish, demanding and fickle, she has the Bruynwaves team dancing on hot coals to comply with her high standards.
"Fortunately, Elsa finds a soulmate in Paula. The question is whether a shared passion for Ferucchi handbags and a horror of the banal will be enough to convince Elsa that the Bruynwaves team can do justice to her event. Because when she finds out everything at the function - from the table decorations to the waitresses’ costumes – would be made from waste material, she is filled with dread."
With a multi-award winning talent like Isadora Verwey in a storyline like this, 7de Laan viewers should simply not miss a single episode, and especially not the Bella Donna function - coming up this Monday, 25 June.
Will Elsa’s dream function materialise on the night or will it be her worst nightmare come true?
