The Amazing Race (Season 19)
Starts: Sunday, 23 September at 19:40
Continues: Sundays at 19:40
Armchair jetsetters will be thrilled to hear that The Amazing Race is back for yet another pulse-racing installment.
Now in its 19th season, this reality show has snagged 12 Primetime Emmys® and is still firing on all cylinders. The allure lies not just in the exotic destinations and unusual or heart-stopping tasks – audiences are also fascinated to see how the teams cope (or not) with having to think and act under extreme pressure.
In this season, 11 two-member teams will race 58 000km across 20 cities and four continents in a bid to be the last at the finish line - and the winners of a cool million bucks.
The cast includes Survivor winners and dating couple Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca. This season will feature first-time visits to Denmark, Malawi, Belgium and Indonesia, but those aren’t the only firsts. Two new game elements have been introduced, the first of which is the Hazard, a penalty one team incurs for being the last to finish the starting-line task right at the beginning of the race. Host Phil Keoghan says this stumbling block was added to “test people’s mental strength out of the gate”. Another curve ball is a surprise double elimination at one of the Pit Stops.
Travel with the teams to an 8th-century Buddhist temple, and join them as they ride elephants through the rainforests of Thailand and bake waffles in Belgium. On your marks, get set… and race - for the remote control!
