New season, new beginnings and Afribiz Charts is back in full swing. The chart ranks the biggest tunes in Africa and this week the top 10 seems to be a South African affair with MiCasa leading the pack.
MiCasa's first single of their second studio album, Su Casa, has landed the top spot after only two weeks on the chart. The single, "Jika", climbs up 11 spots. "Jika" is closely followed by Goldfish's "One Million Views", which ironically hasn't had one million views yet. The song has proved to be a big success for the Cape Town duo as the song has peaked at #1. Breaking the South African stronghold momentarily is Ghana's R2Bees. Their single "Slow Down", featuring Wizkid, takes the bronze medal. The duo have enjoyed a great year, including receiving a BET Award nomination. It is interesting to note that the top 4 spots belong to groups with Kwaito super group holding down the #4 spot. Rounding up the top 5 is Sarkodie's. "Illuminati".
The rose among the thorns, Lizha James, climbs up 7 spots to this week's #6. Her song "Quem Ti Mansou" is held by the production skills of Uhuru, who have a second appearance in the top 10 on Mafizolo's mega continental hit "Khona". "Khona" has proven to be a favourite across Africa, from SA to Nigeria where it peaked at #4 on Nigeria's iTunes Chart. The accompanying video to the song is also in the running for two Channel O Africa Music Video Awards for Best Dance Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year Award. Other artists in this week's top 10 who will be competing for the Most Gifted Video of the Year are AKA with "Jealously" whose collaboration Da L.E.S, "Heaven", lands at #7 and Reason with debut video, "Do It Like". Reason lands the #8 spot with exam preparation song, "No Sleep". The song recently got a boost from a from a remix featuring the likes of Moneoa (Most Gifted Newcomer nominee) and L-Tido (2010 Most Gifted Newcomer winner). Speaking of newcomers and hip-hop, accentric vernacular rapper makes an appearance at #9 with "Milli".
Until next week that's all folks. :)
