Actress
Lesego Motsepe has passed away today (20 January 2014), aged 39 in her Randburg home. The cause of death is at this point unknown.
However, in 2011, the actress whom many came to know as Letti Matabane in local drama series Isidingo
revealed she has been living with HIV for thirteen years. It is alleged she later said on 3Talk she would never take ARVs.
Lesego has in the past, famously played the late Brenda Fassie at the South African State Theatre. In 2011 on 1 December, she revealed live on radio to the entire nation she was HIV + and became a hero of some sort, quickly getting a cover with REAL magazine where she disclosed there was a period she was hospitalized due to the virus. She also became REAL magazines HIV/AIDS counselor to the mags readers.
Do you have any Legogo Motsepe memories you would like to share or your most favourite storyline on any of the show she appeared on? For me, I will always remember her for her courageous act of disclosing her status because as much as we are in 2014, HIV/AIDS stigma is still rife. May her precious soul rest in peace!
