Last night's episode features the playa, Vukani, from the previous episode.
Vukani, goes back home to rural KwaZulu Natal. He meets his cousin, Muzi, by the river, who is smitten by a local girl, Buhle.
Initially, Vukani comes across as being genuine in assisting his cousin Muzi, to win over Buhle's heart. He starts teasing Muzi by shouting out to Buhle that he loves her. Muzi doesn't take kindly to this and dispels Vukani's gestures to Buhle, as he believes in doing things in a proper, cultural manner. He also wants to add his personal touch, by playing his guitar for her. However, up to now, his nerves always get the best of him when he approaches Buhle.
Vukani uses Muzi's shyness to his advantage. He worms his way to Buhle and informs Buhle that Muzi is not interested in her and furthermore he is preparing to wed a girl arranged for him by his parents.
Muzi's shy personality further works against him as Vukani's extrovert personality wins over Buhle's cousin, grandma and is slowly getting to Buhle. Buhle's cousin informs Vukani about her desire to go to Durban; he's delighted and he asks what he'll get in return.
Vukani continues his lies about Muzi and ends up kissing Buhle. Muzi witnesses this and walks away. Buhle finally reads the letter from Muzi and decides to approach him, to hear him verbally confirm his love for her. He gathers enough courage and draws a line which Buhle needs to crossover to be his.
The episode ends with Vukani driving to Durban with Buhle's cousin.
I can't help but wonder what this episode's link to the whole multi partner and HIV theme of the drama is. Was it maybe about true love conquering all? Was is about never trusting your family members? Was it about culture being the solution to eliminate infidelity? Was is about the city corrupting young men?
What are your thoughts?
The episode was dedicated to Ruth Cele who played the role of Buhle's grandmother. RIP Ruth Cele.
