A trippy new reality series starts soon.
Capture. The real world version of The Hunger Games. Literally.
Except people don't die. They get exhausted and hysterical.
It premieres on M-Net Series Reality on Wednesday, 18 June at 21h30 and will hopefully follow on M-Net Series Zone once it ends.
The scenario: 12 teams of two are placed in an open wilderness - called the Arena - and they need to hunt each other until only one team remains. Every two days a different team gets randomly selected to be the hunters and they have to hunt down their human prey. Slowly but surely, hunters become prey until only one team dominates, winning themselves $250 000.
Of course everyone eats nothing as per usual in reality shows. No baths, proper food, blah blah. Except for those who have status i.e. the hunters. When a team are the hunters they're allowed full meals and warm, soft beds while the rest of teams suffer in a crap camp.
And just to shake things up, the hunters are allowed to invite one of the suffering, hunted teams to join them for supper.
I've seen the premiere episode and loved it. Being such a reality addict it's purrfect fodder because it really does become unbelievably real. Their breathing and mindsets change completely as things unfold, you can hear it in their microphones. Which are very swank.
Technologically the show's a techno bomb. The contestants get to use all sorts of hi-tech watches and radars that do very impressive things. Also, there's a loud speaker that covers the range of their wilderness as they hunt and run which makes things eerie.
The best is that it has moments of getting very instinctive and intense, where you feel they're playing the Hunger Games for real.
