Skeem Saam lovers will be pleased to hear that the popular SABC1 series Skeem Saam has been turned into a soapie. Yip!  TVSA can reveal that SABC1's coveted 18h30 Primetime slot will be delivering daily doses of Skeem Saam as from Monday, 14 July (Mondays to Fridays).

There have been rumblings about a soapie stepping into the time slot for a long time now. The past two to three years have heard murmurings that a soapie was going to happen. When the rumours first started we speculated that Montana would become a daily but that was before Skeem Saam arrived on the scene. Skeem Saam's definitely a better fit.

SABC1 is describing it as a "daily youth drama" i.e. a soapie for young people. They say that they decided to commission it because of public demand for more of the series following Seasons 1 and 2.

Here's a look at how things pick up when it starts:

Season 3 of Skeem Saam starts in winter, a time of transition. For some of our friends in Turfloop, life has become almost unrecognisable. Coming of age has a tendency to do that to individuals and to a community. How does the exciting journey to adulthood continue?

Those struggles to balance being a student and a father; and the question of whether he and Mapitsi can be together leads both of them down many winding, heart breaking lanes. Katlego has to face the realisation that having Granny and his mother in the same house brings challenges he never anticipated facing at this stage in his life.

Kwaito finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel that was his barren love-life. The problem is once the floodgates open he has no control over them. He finds himself embroiled in love-triangles that threaten to destroy everything that is precious to him. This season Kwaito meets Lelo; a woman who changes his life in ways no one could ever imagine.

The Kunutu’s face seemingly insurmountable challenges as MaKunutu struggles to carve out a place for herself in a community that fears she will one day try to avenge her husband’s untimely death. Things get especially complicated when she comes to the realization that her daughter Rachel has fallen for the wrong guy.

This is just the beginning of the transitions we are about to go through. This season we spend time with the residents of Turfloop every weekday. We watch their lives unfold on a daily basis. Tbose and Kwaito transcend from High School to University. They spread their wings, leave the nest of Turfloop and venture into the bright dazzling lights of Johannesburg, where more escapades await them.  While the pace of the two boys’ lives spiral uncontrollably, their parents discover that the empty nest syndrome is not just a concept.

PS: The show will challenge Rhythm City on e.tv and 7de Laan on SABC2 in the same timeslot so keep a watch in the Primetime TV Ratings to see what happens with all three of them.

Eish I was hoping to cut down on soapies, I'm watching too many of them as it is but I love Skeem Saam.  I hope this transition from drama to soapy won't spoil a good thing as is the case with Isibaya.

Yho, dont know anymore. I love Isidingo and 7De laan but they used to play simultaneously. I opted for Isidingo which then later moved to 19:30 where 1 of my favourites plays. I chose them. Now Skeem Sam will play simultaneously with 7de Laan and Rythm City. Yho-decisions decisions
