Thursday night saw the plush launch of season 7 of Strictly Come Dancing at VSP in Sandton and we were there in action to collect the scoop for you. With the kind of celebrity line-up this season one would say that the producers shot for the “young” angle – possibly with an aim to pull a younger ‘twitter-type’ crowd onto the show?
As mentioned here, it’s out with the old presenters Marc Lottering and Pabi Moloi from last season and in with the new, young and fresh faces Katlego Maboe and Roxy Burger. I am hoping Strictly Come Dancing keep these two and allow them to grow with the show for at least five more seasons, just to help viewers have something to identify the show with. Changing presenters every season hurts the show and the ARs.
From what I’ve seen with the new contestants, there will be blood and sweat on that floor. They are all young, sassy, slim, athletic and super competitive. We were treated to a few seconds of dance and shimmer of what the couples will be dishing to the viewers when the show airs and I can tell you that so far Khanyi Mbau is the girl to beat! Another possible threat is actress Leandi du Randt and comedian Siv Ngedi.
Boity Thulo partners with last year's king of the ballroom Ryan Hammond who took Zakiya Patel to victory. Will Boity Thulo measure up? Well, that remains to be seen … One of my favourite professional dancers Mary Martins who was partnered with Durban kwaito kingpin L’vovo Derango last season returns to the battle with comedian Donovan Golliath, they looked like a pair that will underdog their way to victory…
The dance-floor battle for the glitter ball will take place every Friday night at 20:00 on SABC 3 after the World Cup! Who will be crowned? I promise I will have better pictures next time…
