Carte Blanche's Oscar Pistorius trial channel on DStv (channel 199) returned to air this morning (7 August) to cover the closing arguments in proceedings.

The channel will be live today and tomorrow and will then shut down again until the final judgment is made. Judge Masipa will most likely announce the final judgment date once the closing arguments are over.

Here's an overview of the channel's afternoon and evening programming which will cover closing arguments:

The Afternoon Show, hosted by Bingwa and Webb. The show premieres at 15:00, following the final live session from the courtroom between 14:00 and 15:00 and provides an overview and analysis of the day’s events in court as well as court highlights. It will be repeated at 16:00 and 17:00 respectively.

Talk Radio 702 presenter David O’Sullivan provides a daily comprehensive overview of the trial with highlights from the day’s court proceedings in Trial Overview with David O’Sullivan at 18:00. Guests include journalists, lawyers and social media specialists.

O’Sullivan also responds to the public’s queries on the law via #AskDavid. And in Legal Roundtable with David O’Sullivan at 20:00, O’Sullivan and a panel of legal experts debate and analyse the events in court from a legal perspective.

Guests on the live show, Court Today with Katy Katopodis at 19:00 include lawyers, experts, and psychologists and Katy also hosts the Editor’s Panel. Court highlights will be repeated from each day of the trial.

From 21:00 viewers can see repeats and highlights of the day until midnight when the channel goes off the air until the following morning at 08:00.

So, what do you think the verdict's gonna be? I haven't really been watching so I don't have a proper perspective on who's case has been strongest. My overall impression though is that the prosecution haven't made a strong enough case or presented any proper proof that proves their case of premeditated murder.

Something I not sure of ... what will happen if he's found not guilty? Can he still be charged with manslaughter or will that be that?

Eish Tashi, I think it is very difficult to speculate on what the verdit is gonna be because it will seem we have already passed judgement on him before the court can do so.

However, Oscar has been found guilty in the court of public opinion.

Tashi, as with any case, the police mess up all the time by tempering with the scene, they always never conduct relevant tests within the prescriots of the law and that's what is really having the state lose many a cases because of not merits of the case but technicalities based on police incompetence. Many people got scott-frees thanks to police ineffectiveness.

Also, what's with police allegedly stealing Oscar's watches?

Having said that, I think the judge can go either way. This for me is 50 50 chance case because of all the things that need to be taken into consideration and or put in context such as the events of that night and what the state is alleging and what the defence is saying.

When all is said and done, Judge Masipa according to me must remember an innocent woman lost her life and will never be seen again. Firing four shots at an alleged intruder in my opinion using the kind of bullets that mushroom when theyhit human tissue shoes what Oscar's intention was on that that fateful Valentine's Day morning.

No matter what a woman has done, no man has a right to beat her up, let alone kill her. Relationships start and end all the time. Violence against women can never be excused.

As I was saying, we have learned through the case that those who own guns know they must first fire warning shots before pulling the gun on the "intruder" or whoever the subject might be.

For me, it will be extrenmely interesting to listen to Judge Masipa's reason in her judgement before announcing guilty or not guilty.

In my opinion, killing a person is killing a person no matter how yu may try and defend it and the law needs to set a very strong precdent against women abuse or else intervention like Women's Month nd 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children should be stopped if the law cannot use this case as an example.

Eita Makisto!
Been a while.
I wonder if this comment of yours is not longer than that which will be delivered by Judge Masipa.
For me,I just do not want him to go free on technicalities.
The case is not as complicated as jis defence are trying to make it out to be.

Lol at you Mbulela saying my comments is longer that Judge Masipa's would-be judgement. Kwaaaa, it's been a while indeed man. Mbulela, of Oscar walks, I dint think it would be because of technicalities but the merit of his possible innocence. However, like I said man, when all is said and done, let's not forget, Reeva is dead and Oscar killed her. Those are facts. The issue of manslaughter or not is something else. Mbulela, would hate to see a suspended sentence on this case purely because of the reasons I stated above. We all have our own anxieties and if we would also kill people, we will also blame that on the anxiety and not take responsibility for our actions. Like Gerrie has been saying, not even once, did Oscar take responsibility for the all the charges he is facing

>>When all is said and done, Judge Masipa according to me must remember an innocent woman lost her life and will never be seen again<<

I agree 100% Maki - that's really what it comes down to in the end.  It's why I've wondered about what will happen if he's found not guilty - will he go free or can he be found guilty of manslaughter even though he's been charged with premeditated murder?

>> it will be extrenmely interesting to listen to Judge Masipa's reason in her judgement before announcing guilty or not guilty.<<

True, it's gonna be facsinating - she's the most pressurized person in the country right now and yet she always seems so calm. Doesn't seem as if she's had meltdowns behind-the-scenes either. That one court assistant of hers did though - when they were off for weeks.
