2014 Emmy Awards: winners wish list

The Emmys need a category for Best Poster.
If it existed, this would win.

The 66th Emmy Awards take over Tinseltown this coming Monday (25 August) - instead of the usual Sunday. The awards are usually on Sundays and a month later but they've changed date this year because of conflicts with the American broadcast of the Super Bowl.

They also narrowly miss clashing with the MTV Awards which are happening on Sunday (and air on MTV).

The Emmys will air live in South Africa in the early hours of Tuesday morning, on M-Net Movies Premiere at 02h00. As per usual M-Net will air a rebroadcast which starts early this year - at 18h00.

So who should get their clutches on the statues? If I were an official judge, these are the shows I'd vote for in the main categories:

Drama Series

Breaking Bad (Not because the show's ended but because it genuinely is the very best out of all these.)
Downton Abbey
Game of Thrones
House of Cards
Mad Men (Would never vote for this - so pathetic that it's even nominated, bah!)
True Detective

Lead Actress, Drama

Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex
Claire Danes, Homeland
Michelle Dockery, Downton Abbey
Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Kerry Washington, Scandal / The Fixer
Robin Wright, House of Cards

Lead Actor, Drama

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Jeff Daniels, The Newsroom
Jon Hamm, Mad Men
Woody Harrelson, True Detective
Matthew McConaughey, True Detective
Kevin Spacey, House of Cards

(Such a bore-fest these nominees - too many "names" instead of Lead Actors in a Drama. Where's Travis Fimmel for Vikings or Andrew Lincoln for Walking Dead?!)

Supporting Actor, Drama

Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Jon Voight, Ray Donovan
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Mandy Patinkin, Homeland
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
Jim Carter, Downton Abbey

Supporting Actress, Drama

Anna Gunn, Breaking Bad
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
Joanne Froggatt, Downton Abbey
Lena Headey, Game of Thrones
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
Christine Baranski, The Good Wife

Comedy Series

The Big Bang Theory
Louie
Modern Family
Orange Is the New Black (Keep a lookout for this on M-Net's new spin-off channel.)
Silicon Valley
Veep

Lead Actress, Comedy

Lena Dunham, Girls
Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Melissa McCarthy, Mike and Molly
Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation
Taylor Schilling, Orange Is the New Black

Lead Actor, Comedy

Louis C.K., Louie
Don Cheadle, House of Lies
Ricky Gervais, Derek
Matt LeBlanc, Episodes
William H. Macy, Shameless
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory

Supporting Actor, Comedy

Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Adam Driver, Girls
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family
Fred Armisen, Portlandia
Tony Hale, Veep

Supporting Actress, Comedy

Julie Bowen, Modern Family
Allison Janney, Mom
Kate Mulgrew, Orange Is the New Black
Kate McKinnon, SNL
Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory
Anna Chlumsky, Veep

Miniseries or Movie

American Horror Story: Coven
Bonnie and Clyde
Fargo
Luther
Treme
The White Queen

Television Movie

Killing Kennedy
Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight
The Normal Heart
Sherlock
The Trip to Bountiful

Lead Actress, Miniseries or Movie

Helena Bonham Carter, Burton and Taylor
Minnie Driver, Return to Zero
Jessica Lange, American Horror Story: Coven
Sarah Paulson, American Horror Story: Coven
Cicely Tyson, The Trip to Bountiful
Kristen Wiig, The Spoils of Babylon

Lead Actor, Miniseries or Movie

Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Dancing on the Edge
Idris Elba, Luther
Martin Freeman, Fargo
Mark Ruffalo, The Normal Heart
Billy Bob Thornton, Fargo

Supporting Actress, Miniseries or Movie

Frances Conroy, American Horror Story: Coven
Kathy Bates, American Horror Story: Coven
Angela Bassett, American Horror Story: Coven
Allison Tolman, Fargo
Ellen Burstyn, Flowers in the Attic
Julia Roberts, The Normal Heart

Supporting Actor, Miniseries or Movie

Colin Hanks, Fargo
Martin Freeman, Sherlock
Jim Parsons, The Normal Heart
Joe Mantello, The Normal Heart
Alfred Molina, The Normal Heart
Matt Bomer, The Normal Heart

(This category's ridiculous.)

Reality - Competition Program

The Amazing Race
Dancing with the Stars
Project Runway (! ... I've never realised it before but I'm more loyal to Project Runway than either Amazing Race or The Voice)
So You Think You Can Dance
Top Chef
The Voice

Outstanding Special And Visual Effects In A Supporting Role

Black Sails
Da Vinci's Demons
Hawaii 5-0
Mob City
Vikings
The Walking Dead

This was terrible to decide!! I really want Vikings to get awarded because it's been snubbed-snubbed-snubbed by every other category but the fact is, the special effects on Walking Dead are much more of a Supporting Role so I have to give them the vote.

Of course judging's such a subjective thing I may be very wrong about things. How would you vote if you were a judge?

Gosh, I got so adamant about Vikings needing acknowledgement that I didn't realise that Special and Visual Effects In a Supporting Role has already been awarded - at the Creative Arts Emmys last week. There was no win for either Walking Dead nor Vikings - Black Sails won instead.
