Press Release
SuperSport launches 24-hour cricket channel
SuperSport launches its 24-hour cricket channel this Sunday (2 November), which culminates in the ICC World Cup final on March 29.
With a slew of major cricket lined up over the next five months, SuperSport has cleared SuperSport 2 (channel 202) to ensure fans needn’t miss a minute of top-class action.
Sunday’s maiden broadcast is suitably explosive with the Ram Slam T20 Triple-Header taking place at the Wanderers.
Major tours and events lined up for the channel include the five-match India-Sri Lanka ODI series – the first will be on SS5 because of the Ram Slam clashes - and also South Africa’s much awaited tour of Australia for three T20’s and five ODI’s.
The exciting Ram Slam will occupy viewers’ interest through November and early December.
There’s also the West Indies tour of South Africa (three Tests, three T20’s and five ODI’s), India’s tour of Australia, New Zealand versus Sri Lanka (ODI’s and Tests) and, finally, the Cricket World Cup from Australia and New Zealand, which concludes at the end of March.
As part of the World Cup build-up, SuperSport has acquired rights to the 18-part “Hooked on Cricket” series which features some of the greatest cricketers of the past two decades sharing their views on the game in general and the World Cup in particular.
Players featured include Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden, Shane Warne and South Africa’s quartet of Graeme Smith, Mark Boucher, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn.
SuperSport’s commentary team inclues some of the biggest names in the game: Graeme Smith, Shaun Pollock, HD Ackerman, Mike Haysman, Mark Boucher, Michael Holding, Ian Bishop, Mpumelelo Mbangwa and Kepler Wessels. Another major name is to be confirmed.
