Proteas getting the all-star treatment on SuperSport
SuperSport is all fired up for the impending ICC Cricket World Cup with big plans to match the scale and thrill of the tournament.
All 49 matches at the World Cup will be broadcast live and in High Definition featuring an all-star world commentary team that includes Shaun Pollock and Pommie Mbangwa.
All games featuring the Proteas will enjoy commentary in three languages – English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa – with extensive studio buildups featuring former international HD Ackerman as host.
Among SuperSport’s analysts will be big names like Kepler Wessels, Alviro Peterson, Morne van Wyk, Neil McKenzie, Robin Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Mfuneko Ngam, Monde Zondeki, Victor Mpitsang and Paul Harris.
The World Cup, which starts on February 14 and ends on March 29, will be available on multiple platforms: television, online streaming and the Catch Up service with regular updates via the Blitz channel and social media.
“We are unashamedly backing the Proteas which is why we will have TV teams Down Under tracking their every move,” explained Brandon Foot, SuperSport’s Acting CEO. “When World Cups come around excitement levels are elevated and it is SuperSport’s intention to match this energy and enthusiasm with our extensive World Cup offering.”
Indeed, touch screen technology will be at the forefront of SuperSport’s analysis with augmented reality adding further depth to the television offering.
In addition to behind-the-scenes coverage featuring on Blitz and in build-ups, SuperSport 2 will broadcast the “Cricket World Cup Special” show on Fridays at 8pm for the duration of the tournament. It will be must-see television for cricket devotees.
Former international Mike Haysman will provide daily reports from Down Under while experienced Crystal Arnold will play the role of roving reporter, interviewing top-line guests like Mark Nicholas, Rahul Dravid, Tom Moody, Simon Doull and Ian Bishop.
