South Africa's television awards season fires up this week when the first nominees for 2015 are announced in what was Almost a Fiasco.
The Royalty Soapie Awards are announcing their nominees at The Venue in Melrose Arch on Thursday evening (19 February) - the same evening that the SAFTAs were going to announce theirs.
Both ceremonies were planning to announce on the same day - crazy but true! They've both been saved by the Jozi Film Festival. According to the National Film and Video Foundation who organise the SAFTAs, they've decided to move their announcement because the festival starts on the same day - it runs from 19 to 22 February.
As a result, the SAFTA nominees will be revealed the following Tuesday (24 February), at Atlas Studios in Auckland Park. The SAFTAs may be announcing after the Royalty's but they're beating the Royalty's to the punch when it comes to the actual ceremonies.
The SAFTAs take place on 20 and 22 March in Gauteng and the Royalty's are happening on 28 March in Durban.
This double whammy of ceremonies means that there are those who'll receive an exclamation of recognition if they're acknowledged for both awards. And of course there will be those who deserve recognition who won't get any.
If you were nominating, who would you choose? Which actors and actresses deserve a nod?
