Gosh, the world of TV biz really is ruthless, particularly when it comes to the competition between platforms and the impact on subscribers.
If you're a StarSat subscriber you may have been wondering what's happening to the BET channel now that there are going to be two BET channels on DStv.
As you may have seen, a new localised BET channel's launching exclusively on DStv in April and BET International - the BET channel on both DStv and StarSat - will be changing to be called BET2 i.e. it isn't going to be as special as the new channel because it won't include the localised content being introduced.
Which is what StarSat subscribers will get. For now, the channel's remaining BET International on StarSat but word from Viacom is that the network's looking at when and how to transition StarSat's channel to BET2.
The result: DStv subscribers will get the most important channel plus the bonus of BET2 whereas StarSat will only get channel number 2.
There's no clarity yet on what else will-or-won't-be on BET2 but channel number 2 = channel number 2. Everyone knows that number 1 is
always better.
