BIG news!
Trevor Noah has been signed to succeed Jon Stewart on Comedy Central's The Daily Show in what can be described as
the most significant South African inroad into American television.
Rumours about the possibility have been rife over the past few days and now the news has been confirmed. 31-year-old Trevor, who joined The Daily Show as a contributor last year, has gone from correspondent to host after only three appearances on the show.
Jon Stewart announced his departure from the show in February this year and the television industry has been chomping at the bit with speculation as to who'll take over from him.
How does Jon feel about Trevor in his seat? This is his statement to the New York Times in response to the news:
I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with. I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!
As for Trevor... he's stoked. Obviously. He's on a Middle Eastern tour at the moment so he's in Dubai and had this say in his statement:
You don't believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you're in a place where you can't really get alcohol.
And on Twitter...

Daily Show debut on 5 December last year:
