Last night we were asked this question about the kiss between Victoria (Rosie Motene) and Mapule (Tanga Ncetezo) on Zabalaza...
Rosie and Tanga locked lips this week in the midst of Victoria's loneliness after her break-up with Sydney. Victoria sees Mapule as one of the only people who hasn't deserted her so the kiss was sparked by Victoria feeling close to her.
It was a first for them but it isn't the first girl on girl action by a South African show. The first all girl smooch happened in 1998 on the SABC2 drama series 37 Honey Street. The lips involved belonged to Casey B. Dolan and Juliana Venter:
Their scene caused all sorts of controversy when it happened because it was censored by the SABC. The kiss was supposed to last 30 seconds but the SABC censored it down to five. They claimed it would offend certain audiences which was obviously extremely offensive to the gay and lesbian community.
Their kiss pre-empted the first ever guy on guy kiss by a couple of years. It happened on Isidingo a few years later when Emmanuel Castis and Chris Beasley locked lips as Steve and Len:
So Rosie and Tanga's kiss isn't the first but is it the hottest? It could have been but we're with Jerà... it should have been longer!
