The coaches on South Africa's inaugural season of The Voice have been announced.
They are... R&B and Afro-Soul songstress Lira, rock singer/songwriter and talk show host Karen Zoid, Afrikaans pop singer and actor Bobby van Jaarsveld and M-Net favourite Khan Morbee of The Parlotones.
The four will take on the task of swivelling the show's signature red chairs when the series debuts on M-Net in January.
They're going to serve as judges, mentors and coaches to contestants and will also battle each other as each of them will want to be the coach who delivers the ultimate winner.
They start their duties towards the end of November after the first round of auditions have wrapped. The selection auditions are happening in October, in three cities, which is the screening phase of the process. Pre-selectors will judge this phase of the competition which we won't see on TV.
The selectors will choose the best of the auditionees who will then sing for the coaches at the blind auditions. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don't get to see them as they sit with their backs to them.
If a coach is impressed by the artist's voice, they push a button to select the artist for his/her team and swivel on their chair so that they can face the artist they've selected.
If more than one coach pushes his/her button, the power then shifts to the artists to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes his/her button, the artist is eliminated from the competition.
Once the teams are set, the battle is on.
