Special Notes

The game between the Springboks and the All Blacks scored the highest ratings of the Rugby World Cup tournament on SABC2. Notice how the figures shot up to almost 3-million for the game and then plunged immedately afterwards. The wrap that followed the game was only watched by 1,480,000 viewers, a stark contrast to the wraps from previous weeks. Clearly South Africans decided to drown their sorrows rather than talk about the game.

The impact of our loss also extended to the Currie Cup final. It aired on SABC2 later and only managed to attract 572,000 viewers.

Impressed by the ratings for Generations.. But still disappointed..

The ratings for Generations by week 44 will probably tumble due to the contentious BDSM storyline.

Yoh! The Road is out of the top 10 Mzansi magic shows. What a calamitous disappointment.

I would like for TVSA to start revealing the weekday figures of every soapie followed by the average figures so that one can see the impact that the friday episodes have on the average figures.

Hey Show-Time

We have of course considered doing that - and even tried once - but the amount of man-hours it takes makes the task impossible, unfortunately. We would love to break the soapies down by day and would do so if we could, but it's not possible.

We do, however, keep an eye on the soapies that air weekdays vs those that are abbreviated (eg. Uzalo vs Gen), and if it looks like Mon-Wed is close in the ratings between them, we always do a calculation to make sure Gen hasn't overtaken Uzalo for those three days. If it ever does, we will inform you in the Special Notes section of the weekly TAMS. The same goes for other shows of this nature.

Gen is definitely affected by the Friday drop, but it wouldn't beat Uzalo even if Gen was only measured from Mon-Wed like Uzalo.

Thanks for your continued insight into and interest in the TAMS though.

Gen is doing so far we will have to wait n see if 50 shades of Smanga will cause a drop in the ratings in the coming ratings .sabc 2 should consider turning mamello into a telenovela to see how it goes cz we don't have a Sotho telenovela
