How do you feel about DJ Arch Jnr winning SA's Got Talent? I've found myself feeling iffy about it because I feel sorry for the other finalists.
The trouble with DJ Arch winning is that the main reason he won is because of his cuteness factor. Which is a cool and positive thing BUT it isn't a talent. Playing the decks would be a talent if he really DJ'd the music but he obviously doesn't and could never be expected to because he's only three.
The act is all about his cuteness but the show
isn't called SA's Got Cuteness, which is why I don't think he should have won. As the winning announcement was made I felt emotional for the Street Stylers and Isabella Jane because both acts are about a very specific talent and it's clear that they've both put so much into trying to master them.
Street Stylers emphasised it in their pre-performance interview when they spoke about how much sleep they'd lost preparing and rehearsing etc. as they honed their skills, which DJ Arch clearly didn't do because he couldn't. It left me feeling that things turned out unfairly for the other finalist acts because ultimately they didn't stand a chance and yet they all fitted the requirements of the show more.
Also, none of them have already made an international name for themselves whereas DJ Arch has already had lots of exposure both here and internationally so he arrived on the show with an already established following and people who knew about him, which isn't fair either because it gave him a distinct advantage when it came to the voting.
Of course the dilemma is that he's so young and no-one wants to crush the dreams of a three-year-old which complicates things in many ways. It leaves no room for him to have come second or third or for people to criticise his performance or for the act to be treated in the same way as the others.
It's a problem with having such young children involved in the show because they're fragile, no-one wants to hurt them and they're cute. No-one stands a chance against them. Next season's finalists will no doubt hope that there isn't anyone below the age of 16 in the final.
