Actress and Selimathunzi presenter Khanya Mkangisa will be starring as the bride on Mzansi Magic's new mystery drama Doubt.

We dished the first details of the series a couple of months ago because the storyline sounded so phresh but there was no word on who would star in the headline role. We can now confirm that Khanya landed the part and she's filming on a relentless schedule in the build-up to the premiere coming up in April.

Khanya plays Lindiwe, a bride who goes through the turmoil of shock, disbelief and... doubt when her groom Sanele gets arrested for murder at the altar. He gets accused of the murder of the stripper at his bachelor party and Lindiwe refuses to believe that he's guilty.

The series follows her battle to try to prove his innocence - as more and more evidence mounts against him.

According to series producer Nomusa Nzima of Quizzical Pictures, Khanya auditioned for a different role on the show but the directors asked her to audition for the lead instead.

"She gave a strong performance and she brought the character to life," Nomusa told us when we asked about her casting. "We consulted with the channel and we all agreed to cast her as the lead. She is a good performer and I think the role will show that."

Her role extends beyond the chaos of the groom's arrest to Lindiwe's relationship with her mother because her mother is very Over-involved. She's put intense pressure on Lindiwe to marry "right", to be a perfectionist and to live an ideal life so Lindiwe has to navigate this while fighting to prove Sanele's innocence.

She starts her walk down the aisle on Monday, 11 April at 20h00.
