What would happen if the Zungus and the Ndlovus found themselves facing the same enemy instead of each other? What happens when outsiders attack? Do. They. Stand. Together?
These are the questions at the core of the upcoming action on isiBaya which celebrates three years on air this week. Season 4 started on Monday night (14 March) and it's going to feature a whoooooooole new crowd who arrive on the scene soon.
A new set of characters make their debut in late April and they're moving in to tackle the Zungus and Ndlovus. As you know, the two families have always battled each other so this puts them in a Situation.
TVSA caught up with series co-creator and executive producer Desireé Markgraaff of Bomb who filled us in: "What we're interested in from a story perspective is... I guess like any family, you can fight with each other inside but when the outside but when the outside comes to tackle you - how do you stand together?... what do they do when they suddenly find themselves challenged with a really powerful opponent?"
Desiree went on to tell us that filming starts next week and that the final castings and contract negotiations are happening as we speak.
Another big focus of the season is the love story between Sibu (Sdumo Mtshali) and Thandeka (Nomzamo Mbatha) who are going through the conflicts that come with marriage - the demands of society, tradition and all the stuff that you
don't see in wedding pictures.
Their story will come to a head this season and it's going to have a dramatic impact on their marriage and the life.
There's also notable comeback coming up. The return of the umkhovu.
"The supernatural world is a very big part of our show," Desiree told us when we asked for details."It's always been part of our DNA, we've never lost it. We don't play with it lightly though - it's not something we pull out for a quick three-week storyline - it's something that's much deeper in the fabric of our characters so it's always been there but it just comes to a huge climax this year."
So that's a taste of things to come.
