And Miss South Africa 2016 is... Ntando Kunene!
Her princesses...
Elizabeth Molapo (1st Princess) and Tayla Skye Robinson (2nd Princess) (Too Zoolander for my liking).
Here's a refresh of Ntando's official Miss SA profile in case you missed it, followed by her acceptance speech...
23-year-old Ntandoyenkosi is an Education Honours student at the University of the Witwatersrand. Like the women produced by Miss SA in the last 50 years, she wants to make an appreciable difference to the society in which she lives.
Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, the first black woman to obtain a PhD in Mathematics Education and who also runs an Adopt-A-Learner foundation, is an inspiration to Ntandoyenkosi. In her spare time, she loves going to the movies or meeting up with “my girls” for a meal. Her message to girls and young women: “Most women succeed against all odds. I say start writing your own story.
------
Ntando: “As a little girl growing up in the township – modelling around the house and practicing my speech in front of the mirror – I had always hoped, prayed and believed that one day my name would be called as the new Miss South Africa.
"Words cannot begin to describe the joy in my heart. I am delighted because I have the opportunity to give back to my nation; to inspire little girls like myself to have big dreams; to be a beacon of hope to the hopeless and to encourage young women to work tirelessly towards their goals, dreams and ambitions.”
Her prize: cash, a car and products valued at overn R2 million. She also gets R600 000 courtesy of Cell C, Sun International and Varsity College to spend on "random acts of kindness" during her reign. I have no idea what that means but 600 000 should go a long-ish way.
