Malachi Kirby as Kunta Kinte
History channel (on 186) opens up to DStv Compact viewers today (13 June) in anticipation of the channel's highly acclaimed miniseries Roots.
It premieres on Wednesday (15 June) at 20h30 in a two-hour marathon and there's good reason for the critical acclaim it's received because it's a show that everyone
has to see.
It's a remake of Alex Haley's bestselling novel of the same name and gives an account of slavery in 18th century America. It tells the story of Kunta Kinte, a teenager who gets sold into slavery in colonial America after he gets captured from his home in Gambia.
The show follows his story and his descendants after him and takes you on an indescribable, shocking, heart breaking, unforgettable emotional journey.
The channel will be available on Compact for the duration of the series which airs for four weeks: on Wednesdays at the same time, in two hour episodes each week.
It starts a second run on Lifetime on Sunday, 19 June at 20h00.
You'll find everything you need to know about the show, including the cast, on TVSA's Roots Show Page which you'll find here:
