Carte Blanche this Sunday (14 August 2016):
Great Whites
South Africa’s Great White shark population has plummeted to alarming numbers. A recent study revealed that there may be less than 530 Great Whites along our coastline, confirming fears that the species may be rapidly facing extinction. Carte Blanche asks: Are we doing enough to protect Great Whites?

Presenter: Derek Watts
Doctors Drunk on Fatigue
Studies have shown that a 24-hour bout of sleep deprivation is equivalent to being intoxicated with alcohol. So, where does this leave medical interns and junior doctors? They are forced to work shifts of 30 hours or more - akin to four working days in a row - often without breaks and are therefore likely to make mistakes while treating patients. Carte Blanche asks: when will doctors’ calls for safer working hours be heard?
Producer: Michael Duffett
Presenter: John Webb
Policing the Protests
Widespread protest action and allegations of disproportionate use of force to quell demonstrations have kept the limelight on the police. Carte Blanche asks: Is the SAPS capable of dealing with a society in which often-violent civil unrest is an almost daily occurrence?
Producer: Chwayitisa Futshane
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
The Connected Consumer
Are you part of ‘Generation C’? These digitally savvy consumers multitask on multiple screens, for instant buyer gratification and ditch over-crowded malls in favour of cyber space. Carte Blanche asks - what drives the rise of the connected consumer?
