If you want to completely lose yourself in a show then I'd highly recommend HBO's excellent series The Night Of. It's been airing on M-Net Edge on Fridays at 21h00 and I wish I could have told you about it before but I recorded it so I only started watching a while after it started - I've got one episode to go.
Keep a lookout for it and if you spot it anywhere, W.A.T.C.H.
It's an eight part series which is cool because it doesn't demand your whole life and it's an intriguing murder/courtcase/jail drama. It stars
John Turturro (Jesus in The Big Lebowski - it's how I always think of him!) and British actor and rapper
Riz Ahmed.
Riz plays Nasir "Naz" Khan, a college student who has a Very Crap Night. Things start off super for him when he steals his father's taxi for a night on the town and then things plunge into a nightmare.
I won't tell you anymore so as not to give things away. All you need to know is that the show's made by HBO (creators of Entourage, Game of Thrones, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos) and that this is the scenario:
"After a night of partying with a female stranger, a man wakes up to find her stabbed to death and is charged with her murder."
What follows is a gripping story of his courtcase, his time in jail while he's on trial and the question of his innocence versus guilt.
The trailer:
PS: I've just checked Catch Up and they have it but only the last three episodes - wish they had full series instead.
PPS: It's executively produced by Sopranos star James Gandolfini. According to
Hollywood Reporter, it was a passion project of his before he died in 2013. He was supposed to star in John Turturro's role and even filmed the pilot so after he died they recast the role.
PPPS: Lookout for The Wire's
Michael Kenneth Williams who puts in a sterling performance as always.
