Yaydom. MTV has seen the light. It's taken them long enough to switch on - 25 years - but eventually they've realised that TV has to be awarded the same status as movies. They'll be including TV in their Movie Awards for the first time this year and they've renamed the awards to reflect this.
It's a noteworthy turn of events because I can't stand the fact that movies always get so much more status than TV - when it should be the other way round! I'm even iffy that they haven't put TV in the awards name first but I'm prepared to get over it because I've always been partial to MTV's Movie Awards in general.
I like how lighthearted they are with their quirky categories like Best Kiss and Best Fight. Such a big contrast to the rest of them that take themselves so seriously you'd swear getting nominated or winning is a life or death sitch. Such a cheek when you consider how suspect they can be.
The MTV Movie Awards always have a different vibe... I'm sure there must be some "serious issues" when you're in the Hollywood scene but at least they don't make their problems our problems and encourage humour instead.
The noms haven't been announced yet but the ceremony date has been confirmed for Sunday, 7 May at the Shrine Auditorium in LA. It airs here on MTV and MTV Base on Monday, 8 May at 21h00.
