Hang onto your nerves TV lovers... M-Net is at it again with more channel name changes and reinventions.
This time it's happening to three-year-old Vuzu Amp, which has been chucked out like an old takkie on a soggy foot.
On Monday 29 January, Vuzu Amp changes name to 1Magic i.e. the No.1 version of Mzansi Magic because it's on the Premium bouquet.
M-Net hasn't said this is so many words but we assume this is what it's intended to reflect because what else could it mean?
According to Nkateko Mabaso, GM for M-Net in South Africa, the reason for the introduction of 1Magic is because "M-Net has identified a need to invest in more local entertainment for our viewers, in the premium segment."
We know that Vuzu Amp has been home to the A-list celeb reality shows this year with Bonang and Minnie Dlamini headlining the reality genre while B-listers Papa Penny and the Ranakas headlined the genre on Mzansi Magic.
Now the channel's extending this concept to the drama and telenovela genre with new local series starring high profile South African names.
Two series debut when the channel changes name: a telenovela called The River and a drama titled Unmarried.
The River provides an aha! moment on why Sindi Dlathu left Muvhango...yip, she's starring, along with Hlomla Dandala and Moshidi Motshegwa. They're joined by newcomer Larona Moagi.
The series tells the story of the deadly result that comes about when the greedy world of society’s upper crust collides with the world of ordinary folk. Themes include love across social classes, greed and a community fighting to survive.
The drama series Unmarried also deals with love and explores the daily challenges faced by young urban couples trying to juggle their lives and aspirations.
Stars include Fezile Makhanya, Thembisa Mdoda and Renate Stuurman.
The channel will continue to air international shows and will be home to The Fixer, How To Get Away With Murder, The Real Housewives, Power, Ballers, Queen Sugar and Insecure amongst others.
It remains on channel 103.
