Aha! Now we know what the secret project is that swept Leleti Khumalo from Uzalo.
It's called Imbewu: The Seed and, as you'll see, it's e.tv's answer to Uzalo.
This is what we know about it so far:
1. Leleti will be starring and she's also the Executive Producer.
2. It's set in KwaZulu-Natal and the story takes place in various locales including Umlazi, Nquthu and Chatsworth.
3. Hotshot producers Duma Ndlovu and Anant Singh are the head honchos on the project. The series is produced by Grapevine Productions, a joint venture between Anant's Videovision Entertainment, Duma's Word Of Mouth Pictures and Leleti's Luyks Productions.
4. This multi-perspective approach extends to the series which features a cross cultural story at the centre of things. The story centres round two brothers and their cultural legacy.
This from Anant and Duma:
Anant: “Imbewu: The Seed reflects the multi-cultural environment which makes Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal unique. The show has the ability to cross the cultural divide and promote social cohesion in South Africa, showcasing a hybrid of cultures in South Africa today."
Duma: "In South Africa, we have not yet had the opportunity to see Indians and Africans come together to tell a story with a social cohesion message and Imbewu: The Seed will deliver this to audiences."
5. The cast will feature a mix of heavyweights and newcomer talent.
6. These are the questions at the centre of the show's themes:
Is it possible to be related by blood and not be family? Can people who share no blood connection be family?
7. It's going to air Mondays to Fridays from April 2018.
8. BUT at what time? e.tv has been hush-hush about this and hasn't confirmed a time yet. Potential times are: 20h00, 20h30, 21h00. And all of them go up against SABC ratings pullers.
We highly doubt Duma would allow it to go up against Uzalo so we're betting our TVs it's going to be
20h00.
