Yaydom! Project Runway's coming to South Africa, on Mzansi Magic - in July. It's always been one of my fave reality shows so I'm tickled by the news.
Word from Mzansi Magic is that the search for designers will start on 26 February.
There's no news on who our Heidi Klum is etc. - you know how much channels love to drag that sort of news out, but the production details have been confirmed.
It's a co-production between Ndalo Pictures and reality stalwarts Rapid Blue (Dancing with the Stars SA, SA's Got Talent, Come Dine With Me SA).
Ndalo Pictures is a new production house created by South African media entrepreneur Khanyi Dhlomo, founder of
Ndalo Media and the Destiny magazines.
Hopefully the show will actually give the winning designer their prize, unlike David Tlale and his dodgy, disappointment The Intern, which plunged to all time reality low last week. Bah!! It has to go down as one of the worst lows in South African reality history.
As you probs know, the winner of the series, Kuena Moshoeshoe, went public on social media last year stating that she's never received her prizes from the series.
David claimed it had something to do with her not being a South African citizen - and SABC3 stepped in to say the channel would ensure she receives what's owed to her. This is their statement from 19 January this year:
SABC 3 has noted the reported dispute between David Tlale and the winner of The Intern, Kuena Moshoeshoe.
We have since made interventions between the two parties in an attempt to find a workable solution on the matter. Currently the situation is still under continuous discussions between the winner and David Tlale with the Channel as the mediator.
The SABC will ensure that the delivery of prizes to the winner will be honoured within the contractual stipulated time frame.
And then, next thing, David announced that he's ditched her as the winner and that the prizes have been given to runner-up Keletso Moraba instead. Here's a link to a story by Sowetan Live about it on Friday last week:
Goodbye Kuena Moshoeshoe - David Tlale crowns new intern
The whole thing S.U.C.K.S. and reveals that the show doesn't have professional policies in place, now or before it started.
I presume Project Runway won't end up the same mess because it's a tried and tested format so it must have a code of conduct.
Interestingly, the finalist contestants will design their collections for the 2019 Paris Fashion Week - *
think French accent*... très bonne (very good).
I'm holding thumbs that they choose right when it comes to the casting and don't try to find a Tim Gunn-clone because he's so unbelievably annoying. I dig me some Heidi but Tim needs a huge smack. I like the show
despite him.
