On Monday, 11 June, Scandal! debuts a villainous new character, Mthunzi Mayisa.
Capetonian actor Bongile Mantsai brings him to life, with an arsenal of acting skills that he sharpened on the film
Inxeba: The Wound.
Bongile played Vija, one of the movie's headline gay characters, and won the
2018 SAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in a Feature Film for the role.
On TV, Bongile was most recently seen in the starring role of Poncho on Mzansi Magic's Sunday night drama Nkululeko.
What can we expect from his new Scandal! alter ego? Here are 6 flash facts about Mthunzi:
1. He's Dambisa's (Khanyisa Bunu) son, the Langa's domestic worker.
2. He was born out of wedlock and suffered as a result. Dambisa's family shamed her for having him.
3. He was raised by his grandmother.
4. He has major issues with the Langas, which have shaped him to the core. When he was a child, he once visited Dambisa at the Langas and the experience left him feeling unwanted, disrespected, changed.
5. Flash-forward to Now and he carries these feelings with him. He grew up resenting the Langas, believing he could never have a mother because of them and suddenly he finds himself in a position where he has an opportunity for revenge. He takes it.
6. No-one suspects his inner vengeful motives because he hides them under a camouflage of success and charm. And his name. He uses the surname Mayisa instead of Dambisa's surname of Maduna so that no-one realises their connection.
