It's been one of SABC1's Top 20 performers since it first debuted in 2007 but now there's no fresh umgosi on The Real Goboza because of the SABC's same-old broke catastrophe.
As you probably know, SABC1's been wearing shoulder pads by airing repeats of old news on RGB instead of new episodes - the ultimate in dated and uncool for an entertainment show.
So what's happening with it?
Turns out there are plans for it to return with new episodes but there's no confirmed date.
This is SABC1's response to our query:
“The Channel, together with the Production House (Urban Brew) is in negotiation for the next season and has already worked on developing a new improved season with exciting changes that viewers can look forward to. The show is planned to be back on air with a new season in the coming months. More details will be shared soonest.”
It isn't the only show that hasn't premiered a new season when it should.
Season 7 of the channel's popular Nyan' Nyan was supposed to premiere on 16 April but it didn't happen. It's also on a repeat loop.
The only conclusion we can reach is that there's big nonsons going on behind-the-scenes that involves the SABC delaying new season orders because they don't have the money to pay for them.
According to an industry insider mole, a new contract for RGB hasn't been signed yet.
The negotiations have been happening but no-one has signed on the dotted line.
Will it ever happen? We'll have to see it to believe it.
In the meantime the number of South Africans who are being let down by this bankrupt situation =
over 2.5-million for RGB and
over 3-million for Nyan' Nyan (as at
January 2019 when new episodes were still airing).
