If you enjoy some Oros Mampofu with your nightly TV biscuits, you'll be happy to know that he'll be back on our boxes every evening from next Thursday (16 May) when he debuts on Rhythm City.
Oros has been signed to the soapie in the role of Banele, an Eastern Cape-born student who enters the RC-scene when he gets a bursary to study at the Johannesburg Metropolitan University.
According to e.tv, it's a "major role" with storylines that centre round the pressures Banele faces as the sole breadwinner in his family.
This is the official description of his character:
What's all this now??
Banele is a rural Xhosa man whose family relies on social grants to sustain their daily lives. He's fascinated by history, particularly African literature and it is this passion that sees his story unfolding after he secures a bursary.
Banele’s story is that of trials; He is the first person in his family to go to university and that becomes both a great privilege and a massive responsibility as his family heavily relies on him for help.
Being the sole breadwinner is no glitz and glam and Banele quickly finds himself working as a recycler in order to send money back home.
This is the second significant nightly role that Oros has brought to life since his breakout year in 2015, which included the debut of his iconic role as Jama on Skeem Saam.
The character went on to become such a success that the TVSA servers broke the night Jama died. Sirrrrious!
