It's sold as D-Day of good cheer, gushy family bonds and joyful abandon BUT as we all know, there's always a problem at Christmas.
The aunt who makes the atmosphere awks because she has a beef with someone, the uncle who drinks too much and gets "handsy", the kid who gets sick after eating too much pud, the frazzled chief cook who loses her goodwill after a week in the kitchen, the unfamiliar couple who arrives, brimming with problems...
... enter the Petersons:
A new family who join 7de Laan on Christmas Day 2019 in the wake of the soapie's
recent long-timer exits.
They're a married couple who go by the names of Marvin and Ivy Peterson, played by Duncan Johnson (Reimvasmaak, Getroud met Rugby, Lui Maar Op, Belinda) and Nazli George (Reimvasmaak, Swartwater. Andries Plak).
They debut on Wednesday, 25 December, spend Christmas day with Die Laaners and will stay on afterwards as their story unfolds.
Filming on their scenes only starts towards the end of September/early October so the exact details of their storylines are still sketchy but what we do know is that they have troubles - and lots of them.
7de Laan describes Ivy as a doting wife and mother, who stands by her husband for better or worse and represents a woman's resilience. In fact she needs so much resilience, viewers will be led to question: how much can one woman endure!?
These troubles arise from Marvin who wants to be family man by providing for Ivy and their children but life throws him a rotten box of chocolates, which Ivy ultimately has to endure.
Word from 7de Laan's publicity manager Kayleen Bessit is that both characters will debut as recurring roles and the long-time future of their characters will be decided once they're on screen.
How much of an impact will they make? Tune in after your Christmas lunch to find out.
