This is the latest you need to know if you're a DStv subscriber:
1. Nick Jr (Channel 307) has been added to the DStv Compact Plus package, catering to kids aged between two and six-years-old.
2. National Geographic (181) has been added to the Family package.
Flash fact:
the channel now stars Bear Grylls (real name: Edward Grylls i.e. he ain't no bear).
3. Youth channel TRACE Urban (Channel 325) has also been added to Family. It's described as a channel that "focuses purely on urban and afro-urban celebrity news, music, entertainment and culture."
4. When?! DStv announced the additions today (24 January 2020) but hasn't specified dates so please tune into the channels to check if it's happened yet. (Please see the update on this in the comments section.)
5. A pop-up channel called M-Net Movies Blackout: The Leading Men Edition
went live on channel 109 today (24 January) for Premium subscribers.
It's on air until 16 February and features movies starring some of Hollywood’s greatest black actors. Credits include Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Lawrence, Eddie Murphy and Morgan Freeman.
6. A Love Island knock-off called The Ultimate Love pops-up on Big Brother's signature channel of 198 in February.
It's a Nigerian reality show featuring 16 people (eight guys and eight galz) who live together in an isolated location with the hope of finding love.
They're paired-up based on their mutual attraction to one another and compete to emerge as the ultimate couple of the competition.
What could possibly go wrong?
It runs from 9 February until 5 April. Packages unknown at the time of going to press.
7. Sucky news that annoys us a LOT: Moja Love (157) will be available to Access viewers for *
think cheesy, condescending voiceover*: a limited time only!
Yip, DStv's doing that nasty up-sell thing again by making the channel available on Access from 7 February to 6 March.
And then they're going to rip it away like a Band-Aid on a boil.
