The President calls this joint sitting in order to set out government's key policy objectives and deliverables for the year ahead.
During SONA the President also highlights achievements, flags challenges and outlines interventions that will be undertaken to unlock development interventions for the coming financial year.
The SONA marks the official start of the Parliamentary programme for the year ahead.

At the end of the journey, he will have had an unforgettable experience and, quite possibly, found true love. But the big mystery is: If he pops the question, will she accept?
This year's bachelor is Marc Buckner - a model, actor and fitness coach who also leases out his homes on Air BnB in Cape Town.
He also had a recurring role as Bollywood star Sunny Leone's husband Daniel in the ZEE5 original series Karenjit Kaur: The Untold Story of Sunny Leone.

Ajay marries Sanjana and their families don't know the truth behind their arrangement.
The Pethewala family takes time to accept Sanjana.
Meanwhile, Shreya, after being brainwashed by her mother, wants to divide the house and gain control over it.
Sanjana comes to know of Shreya's true colours and tries to expose her. But Shreya exposes the truth behind Ajay's marriage.
