The inevitable has happened beloved TV lovers... our local soapies are under immense pressure because of Lockdown and the country's No.1 show has run out of new episodes as a result.
It hasn't happened yet but it's going to happen on Friday, 8 May.
Uzalo has new pre-filmed episodes until then but there are no more after that, which means the production has to deliver new episodes in a marathon of lightning speed once the extended Lockdown ends on 30 April.
If they're allowed to film after this.
As we all know, there are no guarantees of anything right now and our productions are hovering in a plight of uncertainty from day-to-day.
If they're able to return to filming from 1 May, they'll be able to deliver a new episode on Monday, 18 May.
TVSA asked Uzalo producers Stained Glass TV for clarity on the situation and this is what they told us:
As part of a direct response to the president’s announcement regarding the Lockdown extension, Uzalo will only resume production post the extended lockdown.
It is important to us to do our part in this effort to combat the COVID-19 global pandemic and safeguard our cast, production crew and the greater community.
The show will remain on air and uninterrupted until the lockdown is lifted as scheduled on Thursday, 30th April.
However, as previously stated, the lockdown has put production under immense 'post lockdown' pressure.
Pre-recorded episodes will be on air up until Thursday, 8th May thereafter viewers should expect episode re-runs while production works determinedly to deliver more episodes per week and catch up with our delivery schedule.
Viewers can anticipate new and exciting episodes Monday, 18th May.
Our soapies have different filming schedules which means each of them will be impacted in a different way. Some have more episodes in reserve while others less.
Word from e.tv is that they have enough episodes of Scandal!, Imbewu and Rhythm City to continue without re-runs for now.
Whether or not they have enough if there's a further extension depends on the length of the further extension.
Over at 7de Laan, they have episodes up until Monday, 25 May and the production tells us they're going to film during planned production breaks and stand-by days to ensure new episodes are delivered without interruption if they're able to film from 1 May.
We'll keep you posted on what's happening with each show in their respective sections on TVSA.
In the meantime, let's focus our mind's eye on seeing those cameras rolling again.
It's just happened with long-running soapie Neighbours in Australia. They're going back into production next week with strict social distancing rules, daily temperature checks on cast and crew members and no extras - the crew will act as stand-ins.
