Master KG during the virtual show which aired live on Sunday, 8 November on MTV and MTV Base.
It sucks to have to be so meh about an award ceremony but really now, these MTV Europe Music Awards are as annoying as Trump's desperation.
The best thing about them was Master KG's win for Best African Act (yaydom!) but his win also proves how flawed the awards are conceptually because he should have been nominated in the Best Song category too.
Jerusalema was also a hit in Europe and yet the nominees in the "main categories" of the awards were only from the Americas, Britain and Asia.
This was the trend throughout the nominees and winners, with South Korean boy band BTS leading the wins with a total of four.
Confirming that there is no clarity on what these awards mean. Do the nominees represent the most popular artists amongst people in European countries? But artists from where?
They certainly aren't
from European countries. Except for the Best Electronic category, which has three nominees from Europe, highlighting the randomness.
There are additional regional categories for American, Asian and European artists that aren't announced as part of the main awards e.g. Best French Act, Dutch Act etc, which are only announced and celebrated in each country.
What's the point of having the Europe Music Awards if the Euro artists aren't included in the main categories?
What a mess!
Anyhoo, thankfully we don't have to solve it. If you know what they mean, let us know, otherwise we'll leave it to MTV to solve in a sweaty boardroom meeting.
