So this is it pips. The year races to an end and a new Idol awaits crowning this Sunday (13 December).
What can we expect from the finale in these crazy times of ours?
We put our beaks to the ground to get the lowdown and this is it...
1. The finale opens with a Top 10 reunion performance of the Paloma Faith number Warrior.
2. The Top 2 rewind their season songs with the Mzansi Gay Choir: Stimela Sasa Zola by Mbongeni Ngema for Mr Music and Sweet Dreams by Beyoncé for Zama.
3. The show plays a Season 16 music video, described as "Collaborative and electrifying". It's unclear whether this is the Top 16 video or a different one. Let's hope it's aaaaaaall about the contestants and not crammed with tactless sponsor videobombing.
4. The audience will be the same socially distanced audience we've been seeing during the live shows. It's consisted of family members of the contestants and people connected to the production.
Throughout the Top 10 shows the contestants could nominate family members who they wanted to attend. Some were based in Joziburg and some were flown in.
It's the same set-up for the finale audience, but with the addition of sponsors.
5. Zama and Mr Music perform their rendition of the duet Letting Go by late Idols alumni Thami Shobede and Brenda Mtambo.
6. The bad news: Yes, there are professional musician guests hogging the limelight from past, previous and current Idols yet again, with only one past contestant between them. And lots of "ft." .
Performances are:
Nokuthula - Cassper Nyovest ft. Busiswa.
Indlovu - DJ Zinhle ft. Loyiso.
SBWL - Busiswa ft. Kamo Mphela.
Xola Moya Wami - Nomcebo Zikoda ft Master KG.
JazziDisciples (Zlele) - Reece Madlisa & Zuma ft. Mr JazziQ & Busta 929.
Ungowam - De Mogul SA ft. Ami Faku.
7. The good news: Season 15 winner Luyolo Yiba makes a comeback to perform from his new album iThemba.
Yip! We were concerned the show would snub him because of his album being produced by Gallo instead of the series' new record label Kalawa Jazmee so we're pleased to see they haven't. It means the show is conceptually bigger than its deals.
He'll be performing Sondela.
8. The traditional post-show media conference that always happens behind-the-scenes at the venue will be happening virtually this year, on a dedicated DStv channel.
9. The winner will sing their new single obvs. While the other stands and watches on.
Which point of view will go to who?
10. There is no point 10. This is 2020 mofos!
