The Chair
Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Comedy-Drama, Comedy
At a major university, the first woman of colour to become chair tries to meet the dizzying demands and high expectations of a failing English department.
The Chair follows Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim (Sandra Oh) as she navigates her new role as the Chair of the English department at prestigious Pembroke University.
Ji-Yoon is faced with a unique set of challenges as the first woman to chair the department, and as one of the few staff members of colour at the university.
The older staff fear change, while new blood, like professor Yasmin McKay, agitate for it.
Ji-Yoon tries to juggle her new administrative responsibilities — clashing with close co-workers who were confidantes before she became the boss — with motherhood to her young daughter Ju Ju and caretaking for her father Habi.
Simultaneously she is struggling to discern if her platonic relationship with beloved English professor Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass) is becoming something more and, if it even should.
When Bill is captured on video making a controversial gesture the student body erupts into a call for accountability and Ji-Yoon's ride gets even wilder as work, romance, drama and comedy collide in this tale created by Amanda Peet and also starring Holland Taylor, Bob Balaban and David Morse.
The Other Guy
Channel: S3
TX Time: 20h30
Genre: Comedy
A poignant look at breakups in the digital age, and at the harsh reality of recovering from heartbreak.
AJ is heartbroken, and he is dealing with that heartbreak like any young man newly single after 10 years of monogamy: binge drinking, offensive behaviour, misuse of Class A substances and sexual entanglements that leave everyone involved feeling a little bit soiled.
After working in community radio and other forms of underpaid drudgery, AJ is finding that his career is finally taking off.
He has some celebrity, some money, some job satisfaction, but he's just lost the partner he wanted to share his new life with.
For 10 years, AJ and Liv shared a home with AJ's best friend, Henry. Then Liv and Henry slept together, and AJ lost GF and BFF in one fell swoop.
Liv has moved out, but neither of them has moved on, and the various forces of habit, practical necessity (breakup admin, anyone?) and deepset connection mean each seems to find a regular excuse to meet up with the other.
The only way for Liv to escape will be to return home to Ireland, and although she truly and sincerely intends to do that, events just seem to get in the way.
The best possible companion for a self-destructive post-breakup bender is AJ's old friend and new flatmate, Stevie.
Stevie knows AJ intimately and loves to give him advice, but it always seems to point AJ towards either the gutter or the emergency department.
She is the person his father, the quirky-but-loving Daddy Mack, warned him against, and still does.
AJ's insecurity about his unplanned singledom are magnified by work troubles – including his online nemesis, internet troll Dog Murphy – and his awkward first steps onto a dating scene he's never really had to bother with.
Navigating the reefs and shoals of Tinder, Facebook, Insta, Uber ratings, role playing and playing for keeps is hard when you're 30, earning your first professional income, and probably still in love with your cheating ex.
AJ's giving it a red hot go, though, and bouncing back from every failure with the courage that only an unconscionable amount of alcohol can bring.
In the series premiere, "The Mattress": AJ wakes up on a mattress with a pool of urine separating him from his one night stand.
Unfortunately, the mattress belongs to his recent ex, Liv.

With help from the rest of Team Flash - which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Ralph Dibny and Nash Wells, as well as the Flash's adoptive father Joe West, meta-attorney Cecile Horton, tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk - Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master.
But in doing so, he'll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team - and his marriage - apart.
