2017.
That's when we last saw MasterChef South Africa and now it's been revived for Season 4.
It returns in February 2022 and the search is on for amateur cooks who want to fry, bake, mix and sauté their passion on TV.
Why a new season now?
This from M-Net's Director of Channels Jan du Plessis:
“Within the current landscape of the COVID-19 virus, we wanted to give our audience something familiar and comforting that felt like home.
"MasterChef SA was the perfect choice as both the local and international versions have proven that the format is a firm favourite with our viewers. It’s heart-warming and welcoming content,” .
The format
As you probably know if you're reading this, the series features home cooks who tackle various challenges where they compete head-to-head to create the most delicious dishes.
Each episode sees the elimination of whoever created the least delicious dish.
The series wants 20 contestants for Season 4.
Who can apply?
You need to be over 18 and be a South African citizen or have permanent residency.
The prize
R1-million cash.
Other must knows
>> The celebrity judges haven't been confirmed yet. Previous season stalwarts Pete Goffe-Wood and Benny Masekwameng are now firmly ensconced as judges in Ultimate Braai Master (new season filming as we speak) so it seems unlikely they'll return.
Will be interesting to see who gets their aprons.
>> The season will be a daily show this time round with new episodes Monday to Thursday from 28 February 2022 at 18h00.
>> Cameras roll in October 2021.
