As you may have seen in the
TVSA News Shorts, Vuzu and M-Net City go dark on DStv at the end of this month.
They close on Friday 29 October and on Monday 1 November they merge into a new channel on 115, which wants to be known by the pronoun Me.
You, them, they, I, me. Let's hope this isn't the new trend on DStv or next thing we'll see M-Net and 1Magic amalgamate as I.
A merge of those two channels would work (with an additional M-Net Edge spin-off channel for edgier shows) but calling the new channel "I" wouldn't.
This is the Me channel's tagline as described by MultiChoice:
Me is TV made personal. It’s a place to unwind. It’s a channel that will change and evolve to continue to offer viewers more of what they like.
Come watch TV, with Me.
Simply put: it's an M-Net/1Magic repeats channel, specifically for the Family and Compact bouquets.
It's available on Premium and Compact Plus too, but according to MultiChoice it's targeted at Family and Compact viewers, primarily aged between 18 and 34.
Here's an overview of the most important aspect of it - the programming:
17h00 to 20h00
The channel will launch with daily episodes of The Rookie, NCIS: New Orleans, Survivor Australia and Young Sheldon.
20h30 to 21h30
A mix of local and international series including Lioness, Prodigal Son, All American and 9-1-1.
21h30 to 22h30
The Real Gold Diggers franchise will air every weekday, starting with The Real Gold Diggers of Atlanta.
22h30 to 23h30
More hard-core international dramas and thrillers e.g. Godfather of Harlem, Clarice and Flight Attendant.
Friday evenings feature The Bachelorette SA and a movie.
Saturdays and Sundays feature gameshows, talent shows and reality shows including Beat Shazam, American Idol and Growing Up Hip Hop.
Sunday evenings at 20h00 will feature dramas such as Queen Sugar.
The channel launches at 16h00 on Monday 1 November.
