And the new show replacing Durban Gen once it goes off life support is... Nikiwe, premiering on e.tv on Monday 17 April at 18h30.
It's executively produced by Thomas Gumede and Lungile Radu for Parental Advisory Productions, creators of game shows Perfect Match and Uyang'thanda Na?, and the Mzansi Magic drama series Abomama.
Here's a look at Nikiwe's first artwork, followed by details on the scenario and the trailer:
A close-up on what it's about:
Imagine inheriting all the wealth in the world, having power and influence in the palm of your hands, only to have it all stripped away from you by your own family.
The story tells a tale of what it means to be "hood rich", following the lives of the Radebe family, witnessing the rise and fall of a family empire based in the surrounds of Diepkloof Extension, Pimville and Orlando, Soweto.
It's filmed both on location and in studio.
According to e.tv Executive Producer Mark Madai:
“Exciting times are ahead of us, as a channel we fell in love with this story concept because it also follows the lives of the youth, we’ve explored all possible dilemmas that this market would go through and translated them to screen, giving viewers a product that they’ll resonate with, night in, night out."
The story was conceptualised by Thomas Gumede who also directs the first block of the show.
Durban Gen ends on Friday 21 April and Nikiwe debuts the Monday after.
