After all the fuss and outrage about the Indian Premier League not airing on SuperSport, it's suddenly back and will air from today, 31 March, at 16h00, with the opening ceremony starting at 14h30.
According to SuperSport:
Following updated conversations, DStv can confirm that all IPL matches will be broadcast on SuperSport, starting today. All 74 matches of the tournament will be broadcast live, starting with the Gujurat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings (DStv channel 212) at 16:00 (CAT)
What do those "updated conversations" mean exactly?
Did SuperSport agree to pay a higher price for the broadcast because of the pressure of viewers' responses?
Was it a ploy by SuperSport to force the IPL into bringing down the price?
Did the IPL lower the price when they saw the outrage of those who want to watch?
And what were
Viacom-now-Paramount doing while this was going on, considering they bought the five year rights to the IPL last year?
Is it
them who sold the rights to SuperSport?
Did they want to fleece SuperSport?
Did one party call a bluff?
Too many unanswered questions! They're making their problems our problems when all viewers want is to
watch.
It's awful how much this is happening these days. We pay and then we get pushed around.
What's worse is that it happened in the year when it's most important for South Africans to have access to it.
There are more South African players in the tournament than any previous year, and this is the IPL's 16th year.
