Gee my Krag

Loadshedding has become part of our lives, but it is not only the power grid that is under constant strain in South Africa - there are also places where water supply is a frustrating issue.

A growing number of people are trying to live closer to nature and to depend on the state as little as possible for their electricity and water needs.

In Gee my Krag, presenter Konrad Raubenheimer talks to South Africans who have decided to kiss the grid goodbye.

Some of these people have taken it further than just solar panels and water tanks - they tackled major building and designing projects to see how independent they can become.

There is Willie Schmidt, an eccentric artist and inventor, who built his own wind turbines to provide his house with power.

Prof Dieter Holm, a professor in architecture, is a pioneer when it comes to solar power in Africa.

He built the continent's first off-grid house in 1974 and lives with three generations of his family on an estate that includes their houses, a lodge and a business – all powered by the sun.

Gerhardt Koch, who is preparing for the end of the world with his family, has built his house, which is 100% self-sustaining, with his bare hands.

Ross and Kath Evers built their home out of an old dam wall on their farm and have lived off the grid for 20 years.

In each episode, Konrad has a closer look at someone's resourcefulness and unique approach to a sustainable lifestyle, renewable energy and innovative technology.

An extraordinary engineering project is underway, which seeks to add a five-story basement at the bottom and 72 new rooms and suites spread over three new floors at the top.

But the owners are insistent that the hotel must remain open throughout the build, with the guests oblivious to the noise surrounding them - leading the miners to tunnel by hand.

Outlander 6

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Fantasy

Outlander 6

The return of the epic series will launch with an extended episode, picking up shortly after traumatizing events that took place at the end of Season 5.

The last time we saw Claire and Jamie, Claire had just escaped a violent encounter with Lionel Brown and returned to Fraser's Ridge.

The threat of the Revolutionary War looms over the ridge and Claire and Jamie must choose what is best for their family.

The sixth season sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie's fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America.

Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina - and perhaps most significantly - during a period of dramatic political upheaval.

The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which - as Claire knows all too well - is unwittingly marching towards Revolution.

Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser's Ridge.

They must now defend this home - established on land granted to them by the Crown - not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care.

For the Frasers and their immediate family, "home" is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.

If Season 4 asked "What is home?" and Season 5 asked, "What are you willing to do to protect your home?" then Season 6 explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you've created: when you become an outsider, or an 'outlander,' so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.

Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, Season 6 is based on material from the sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

In the Season 6 premiere, "Echoes": Jamie's authority is tested when an old rival from Ardsmuir shows up to settle on the Ridge.

Also, Claire finds a new way to cope with the trauma of her assault by Lionel Brown.

Ask the Dentist ... hopefully they don't show close-ups.    On one hand it's a total reality low and yet on another such problems can be debilitating so the show could really help people.

The name's way too literal though - they should have called it The Tooth Fairy.
